Laura Stilwell has conceived, directed, and choreographed several noteworthy theatrical productions in the U.S. and abroad. Laura’s Off Broadway choreography credits include “The Cradle Will Rock” at Theatre 80, “This Joint Is Jumpin’” at The Edison Theatre, “Promised Land” at The Lamb’s Theatre, and “Full Moon Lampoon” at New York’s 13th Street Repertory Company. Her choreographic works have also been presented at The Blue Angel Theater, St. Marks Church in the Bowery, The USO of Metropolitan New York, and The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center.
Laura trained extensively at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She established her own professional dance company, “Dance Alive!” at the age of twenty, and then performed with N.W. Repertory Dance Co. and Joe Orlando Dance Theatre. Laura has performed in music videos, numerous musical revues, commercials for NHK Television, international tours of “Evita”, regional productions of “Me And My Girl”, “West Side Story”, “Pirates Of Penzance”, “Pacific Overtures”, and she recently performed the role of Abuela in the Stumptown Stages production of, “In The Heights”.
Laura has performed and recorded as a vocalist with Duke Ellington Orchestra musical director Tommy James and with virtuoso guitarist and Grammy winner Diego Garcia, “El Twanguero”. In NYC she performed at Cleopatra’s Needle, Harai Mong, The Ella Lounge, and St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery. Portland Jazz clubs include Wilf’s Restaurant & Bar, Camellia Lounge, Jo Bar, and Vie De Boheme. Laura has performed at the Black & White Lounge and The Bottom Line in Tokyo, the Nidaba Theatre in Milan, and she recently performed in a tribute to Motown with stars from The Platters, The Coasters and The Temptations at the Knight Concert Hall in Miami.
As Artistic Director of Leoné Dance Theatre Laura is excited to premiere two choreographic works, “SO WHAT” (Miles Davis) and “Driftin’ Blues” (Brown/Norre/Williams) and to provide musical entertainment in an evening entitled A Night of Jazz.
